Celebrating 10 Years of the Ronald O. Loveridge Public Service Fellowship

This summer marks a milestone for the Ronald O. Loveridge Public Service Fellowship, as we celebrate 10 years of preparing UC Riverside students for impactful careers in government, policy, and public service. Since its inception in 2015, the Fellowship has given rising seniors and recent graduates in Political Science and Public Policy the opportunity to spend 10 weeks in Sacramento working in legislative offices, executive agencies, nonprofits, and advocacy organizations.

The program offers Fellows a rare inside look at the workings of California’s state government, while also connecting them to an extensive network of alumni and mentors through weekly seminars and workshops. Over the past decade, more than 100 students have participated in the Fellowship, gaining hands-on experience that shapes their professional trajectories and strengthens their commitment to public service.

This year’s 13 Fellows are continuing that tradition:

  • Fabian Alonso – State Assemblymember Garcia

  • Cecile Diroll – California State Association of Counties

  • Sophia Fu – California Council of Governments

  • Arthur Gonclaves – League of California Cities

  • Madeline Hall – American Lung Association

  • Rachel Kim – Governor’s GO-Biz Office

  • Sawyer Kumar – State Senator Cervantes

  • Joshua Mendoza – California Forward

  • Jaden Nguyen – Assemblymember Dr. Corey Jackson

  • Jared Roman – League of California Cities

  • Sasha Singh – California Air Resources Board

  • Allison Wang – California State Transportation Agency

  • Michelle W. – Office of the Lieutenant Governor

Honoring a Legacy of Service

The Fellowship is named after Ronald O. Loveridge, long-time UCR political science professor and one of the most influential public servants in Inland Southern California. In addition to serving 19 years as Mayor of Riverside and 14 years on the City Council, Loveridge has been a leader in state and national municipal organizations, including as President of the League of California Cities and the National League of Cities. Over his career, he has taught and placed more than 2,000 interns in the greater Riverside area, and continues to serve on numerous boards and community organizations.

From its first cohort of five students to today’s diverse and accomplished Fellows, the program reflects Loveridge’s vision that experiential learning and civic engagement are essential to developing the next generation of leaders.
